Author Guidelines

Iraqi Journal for Applied Science (IJAS)

The Iraqi Journal for Applied Science (IJAS) welcomes high-quality, original, and scientifically rigorous manuscripts that contribute to the advancement of applied sciences. Authors are requested to carefully read and follow these guidelines before submitting their manuscripts. Compliance with these instructions facilitates efficient editorial processing, peer review, and publication.

Submission of a manuscript implies that all authors have read and approved the final version and agree to the journal's editorial, ethical, and publishing policies.

1. Scope of the Journal

IJAS publishes original and significant research in the broad field of applied sciences, including but not limited to:

  • Computer Science
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Data Science
  • Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • Biology
  • Biotechnology
  • Materials Science
  • Nanotechnology
  • Environmental Science
  • Biomedical Engineering
  • Computational Sciences
  • Interdisciplinary Applied Research

Authors should ensure that their manuscript falls within the journal's Aims and Scope before submission.

2. Types of Manuscripts

IJAS accepts the following categories of manuscripts:

  • Original Research Articles
  • Review Articles
  • Short Communications
  • Technical Reports
  • Case Studies
  • Interdisciplinary Research Papers

All submissions must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration by another journal.

3. Manuscript Preparation

Authors must prepare manuscripts using the official IJAS Microsoft Word template.

A complete manuscript should normally include:

  • Title
  • Author names
  • Institutional affiliations
  • ORCID iDs (recommended)
  • Corresponding author information
  • Abstract (200โ€“300 words)
  • Keywords (4โ€“6)
  • Introduction
  • Materials and Methods
  • Results
  • Discussion
  • Conclusion
  • Acknowledgments (if applicable)
  • Funding Statement
  • Conflict of Interest Statement
  • Author Contributions (recommended)
  • Data Availability Statement
  • References

Review articles may follow a different structure appropriate to their subject.

4. Language

Manuscripts must be written in clear, concise, and grammatically correct English.

Authors whose first language is not English are strongly encouraged to have their manuscripts professionally edited before submission.

Poor language quality may result in the manuscript being returned before peer review.

5. Formatting Requirements

Authors should ensure that:

  • The official IJAS template is used.
  • Figures and tables are numbered consecutively.
  • All figures and tables are cited in the text.
  • Equations are created using an equation editor.
  • SI units are used throughout the manuscript.
  • Abbreviations are defined at first use.
  • References follow the journal's required citation style.
  • The manuscript has been carefully proofread before submission.

6. References

References must be:

  • Accurate and complete.
  • Cited consistently throughout the manuscript.
  • Formatted according to the IEEE citation style.
  • Primarily drawn from peer-reviewed scholarly literature.

Authors are encouraged to cite recent, relevant, and high-quality literature.

7. Submission Process

All manuscripts must be submitted electronically through the journal's Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform.

The submission should include:

  • Manuscript file
  • Cover Letter
  • Supplementary files (if applicable)
  • Ethical approval documents (where required)
  • Permission letters for copyrighted material (if applicable)

Authors should carefully review all uploaded files before completing submission.

8. Cover Letter

Authors are encouraged to include a Cover Letter explaining:

  • the significance of the research;
  • the originality of the work;
  • its relevance to the journal's scope;
  • confirmation that the manuscript has not been submitted elsewhere.

9. ORCID

IJAS strongly encourages all authors to register for an ORCID iD and include it during manuscript submission.

ORCID improves author identification, citation accuracy, and scholarly visibility.

10. Funding Information

All financial support related to the research must be disclosed.

If no funding was received, authors should state:

The authors received no specific funding for this work.

11. Conflict of Interest

Authors must disclose any financial, professional, institutional, or personal relationships that could influence the reported research.

If no conflicts exist, authors should include:

The authors declare no conflict of interest.

12. Data Availability

Authors are encouraged to provide a Data Availability Statement indicating where the research data can be accessed.

Examples include:

  • Data are available from the corresponding author upon reasonable request.
  • Data are publicly available in a recognized repository.
  • No datasets were generated or analyzed during the current study.

13. Ethical Requirements

Authors must comply with internationally accepted standards of research ethics.

Where applicable, manuscripts should include:

  • Ethics committee approval.
  • Institutional approval number.
  • Informed consent statement.
  • Animal ethics approval.

The journal follows the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

14. Artificial Intelligence

The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) or Generative AI tools during manuscript preparation must be disclosed transparently.

AI systems:

  • cannot be listed as authors;
  • cannot assume responsibility for the work.

Authors remain fully responsible for the originality, accuracy, and integrity of the manuscript.

15. Peer Review

All manuscripts undergo:

  1. Initial editorial assessment.
  2. Similarity screening.
  3. Double-anonymous peer review by at least two independent reviewers.
  4. Editorial decision.

Possible editorial decisions include:

  • Accept
  • Minor Revision
  • Major Revision
  • Reject

The final decision is made by the Editor-in-Chief.

16. Article Processing Charge (APC)

The journal charges an Article Processing Charge (APC) of USD 150 for accepted manuscripts.

  • No submission fee is charged.
  • APC is payable only after final acceptance.
  • Payment has no influence on editorial or peer-review decisions.

17. Copyright and Open Access

Authors retain copyright of their published work.

All accepted articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) License.

18. Before You Submit

Before submitting your manuscript, please ensure that:

  • The manuscript is within the journal's scope.
  • The official template has been used.
  • English language has been carefully checked.
  • References are complete and correctly formatted.
  • Figures and tables are properly numbered.
  • Ethical approvals have been included where required.
  • Funding information has been disclosed.
  • Conflict of Interest Statement has been included.
  • Data Availability Statement has been provided.
  • All required files have been uploaded.
