Manuscript Preparation Guidelines
Authors are responsible for preparing manuscripts in accordance with the formatting, structural, and technical requirements of the Iraqi Journal for Applied Science (IJAS). Careful adherence to these guidelines facilitates efficient editorial processing, supports a fair peer-review process, and contributes to high-quality publication.
Before submission, authors are strongly encouraged to ensure that the manuscript is complete, accurate, and prepared using the official IJAS manuscript template.
1. General Requirements
Submitted manuscripts should:
- Present original and unpublished research.
- Be written in clear, concise, and professional English.
- Fall within the journal's aims and scope.
- Be prepared using the official IJAS template.
- Be submitted in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) format.
- Include all required sections and declarations.
- Follow the journal's formatting requirements.
Manuscripts that do not satisfy these requirements may be returned before peer review.
2. Manuscript Organization
Research articles should normally be organized as follows:
- Title
- Abstract
- Keywords
- Introduction
- Materials and Methods
- Results
- Discussion (or Results and Discussion)
- Conclusion
- Acknowledgments (optional)
- Funding Statement
- Conflict of Interest Statement
- Author Contributions (recommended)
- Data Availability Statement
- Ethical Approval Statement (where applicable)
- Informed Consent Statement (where applicable)
- AI Disclosure Statement (where applicable)
- References
Review articles may follow a different structure appropriate to their content.
3. Title
The title should:
- Clearly reflect the content of the study.
- Be concise and informative.
- Avoid unnecessary abbreviations.
- Contain important keywords where appropriate.
4. Abstract
The abstract should:
- Contain approximately 200โ300 words.
- Briefly describe the research background.
- State the objectives of the study.
- Summarize the methodology.
- Present the principal findings.
- Highlight the main conclusions.
The abstract should be understandable without referring to the main text.
5. Keywords
Authors should provide 4โ6 keywords that accurately represent the primary topics of the manuscript.
Keywords should complement rather than duplicate words used in the title whenever possible.
6. Text Formatting
Authors should ensure that:
- The official IJAS template is used.
- Section headings are clearly identified.
- Pages are numbered consecutively.
- Standard scientific terminology is used consistently.
- SI units are used throughout the manuscript.
- Abbreviations are defined at first use.
- Equations are created using an equation editor.
7. Figures and Tables
Figures and tables should:
- Be numbered consecutively.
- Be cited in numerical order within the text.
- Include informative captions.
- Be of publication-quality resolution.
- Present accurate and readable information.
- Avoid duplication of information already provided in the text.
Authors are responsible for obtaining permission for any copyrighted material.
8. References
References should:
- Follow the IEEE citation style.
- Be complete and accurate.
- Include DOI information whenever available.
- Be cited consistently throughout the manuscript.
- Preferably include recent and relevant scholarly literature.
Authors are responsible for verifying all bibliographic information before submission.
9. Language Quality
Authors are responsible for ensuring that the manuscript is free from grammatical, spelling, and typographical errors.
Authors whose first language is not English are encouraged to obtain professional language editing before submission.
Manuscripts with inadequate language quality may be returned for revision prior to peer review.
10. Preparing the Anonymous Review Version
IJAS follows a double-anonymous (double-blind) peer-review process.
The manuscript file submitted for peer review should not contain information that identifies the authors.
Authors should remove:
- Author names.
- Institutional affiliations.
- Email addresses.
- ORCID identifiers.
- Self-identifying acknowledgments.
- Funding statements that reveal institutional identity (where appropriate).
- Personal information stored in the document properties or metadata.
Author information should be entered separately during the online submission process through the journal's OJS platform.
Failure to anonymize the manuscript may delay the editorial process.
11. Required Statements
Where applicable, manuscripts should include the following statements:
- Funding Statement.
- Conflict of Interest Statement.
- Author Contributions Statement.
- Data Availability Statement.
- Ethical Approval Statement.
- Informed Consent Statement.
- AI Disclosure Statement.
These statements promote transparency, accountability, and research integrity.
12. Final Accepted Version
Following acceptance, authors will be asked to submit the final publication-ready version of the manuscript, including:
- Complete author names.
- Institutional affiliations.
- Corresponding author details.
- ORCID iDs (recommended).
- High-resolution figures.
- Supplementary files (where applicable).
- Any additional information requested by the Editorial Office.
The final version will undergo production processing before publication.
13. Submission Checklist
Before submitting the manuscript, authors should verify that:
- โ The manuscript is within the journal's scope.
- โ The official IJAS template has been used.
- โ The manuscript is written in professional English.
- โ The anonymous review version has been prepared correctly.
- โ Figures and tables are complete and correctly numbered.
- โ References follow the IEEE citation style.
- โ All required declarations have been included.
- โ The manuscript has been carefully proofread.
- โ All required files have been uploaded to the submission system.
